National Monument

The first idea to built National Monument or usually called Monas was came from Indonesia's first president Mr. Soekarno in 1959. Then he made the contest for making the sketch of Monas, a lot of artists who joined it gave them idea to built Monas.
tha contest was closed, but from many sketches no one could be the winner. because he felt unsatisfied, he made the second contest. In the second contest only have the Runner-up, he is Mr. Frederick Silaban. Mr. Soekarno chose his sketch to be the sketch of picture describe the struggle of Indonesian peoples as Lingga and Yonie means Valos. He was appointed Ir. Soedarsono as the architect of processed to built Monas.
On August 17th 1961, Monas was built by Ir. Soedarsono as the presidential architect and Prof. Dr. Ir. Roeseno as the consultant led by Ir. Soekarno. Monas was finished in 1967, in 6 years the cost to built Monas is 7 billion rupiahs, 5.9 from self supported peoples funds and 1.1 billion from APBD (National Budget).
Other countries also participated in Monas processed, such as Italy as the producer of marble, germany as the electricity expert and Japan as the technician who made the elevator. Monas used as point 0 (zero) kms as the central of Jakarta.
Monas has wide 90 hectares and the height is 132 meters. Why 132 m used as Monas height? because 132 meters is the holy numbers if 1 x 3 x 2 = 6, and if 1 + 3 + 2 = 6. The results of adding and multiplication are same there was 6. It means 6 years the time to built Monas.
In the early, the peoples who visited Monas only government peoples and country guests. Then on July 12th 1975 Monas was opened for public by DKI Jakarta's governor Mr. Ali Sadikin. The technician said that Monas building is strong, because designed for endure of earthquake 8.5 skala richter.
